Thunderbird Problem: For many years I have been using the Thunderbird mail client currently in ver. 128.7.0esr (32 bit) on S.O. Windows 10 Home Update 22H2 (OS Build 19045.5487), 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor. I have a couple of mail accounts, one of mine and one of my wife. My problem is that for a few days now (about 5 or 6 days) on the InBox folder of my account, only mine, I have not been able to compact the folder. When I try to compact it, the response message is always the following: <The Inbox folder on "my_account_name@gmail.com" cannot be compacted because it is not possible to write to it. Verify that you have enough disk space and have write privileges, then try again> On my disk the available space is 121 Gb on C: where the program with the InBox folders resides and 266 Gb where the data stored in custom folders resides. The write privileges are always the same, never changed, of Administrator. I have already tried the path of "repairing the folder" and re-indexing the folder, but without success. Verificare di avere spazio su disco sufficiente e avere privilegi di scrittura, quindi riprovare> Sul mio disco lo spazio disponibile è di 121 Gb su C: dove risiede il programma con le cartelle InBox e di 266 Gb dove risiedono i dati archiviati in cartelle personalizzate. I privilegi di scrittura sono sempre quelli, mai cambiati, di Amministratore. Ho già tentato la strada della "riparazione della cartella" e della re-indicizzazione della cartella, ma senza successo. Can't launch Thunderbird on one Mac user account

I use Thunderbird on two user IDs on the same Mac, which is running macOS 15.3.1. I usually run Thunderbird updates on user 1, but this time I ran the it (to 128.7.0esr)… (jàng ci lu gën a bari)

I usually run Thunderbird updates on user 1, but this time I ran the it (to 128.7.0esr) on account 2, and I can no longer launch it on user 2. (Note: Neither user is an admin account.)

Steps: 1. On user 2, launch Thunderbird. 2. Get the dialog that there's an update to 128.7.0esr. 3. Click the Restart to update button. 4. Get the dialog that there's an update to 128.7.0esr. 5. Click the Restart to update button. 6. Get the dialog to enter admin ID and password for installing the Thunderbird helper. 7. Enter the admin ID and password and click OK. 8. Get a (surprise) dialog to authorize Thunderbird to discover my devices. 9. I choose to deny.

Expected result: Thunderbird relaunches, now with 128.7.0esr. Actual result: Get the dialog to enter admin ID and password for installing the Thunderbird helper.

10. Log off user 2 and log on to user 1. 11. Download 128.7.0esr from the Mozilla website. 12. Check the hash. 13. Install, choosing to replace the old Thunderbird in the shared Applications folder. 14. System Settings, About, System report, Applications 15. Verify the signature is signed by Mozilla 16. Launch Thunderbird

Expected and actual result: Thunderbird launches and I can use it normally.

17. Log out of user 1 and log into user 2. 18. Launch Thunderbird

Expected result: Thunderbird launches and I can use it normally. Actual result: Get the dialog to enter admin ID and password for installing the Thunderbird helper.

I'm guessing there's some manner of residual file that's preventing Thunderbird from launching on user 2. I've verified Thunderbird is in the system's Application folder and not in user 1's files.

How do I clear the pending install from user 2 so that Thunderbird will launch for user 2?

During the setup when I clicked on "Re-test", a green notice "The following settings were found..." Then I clicked on "Done" and I get a yellow notice "Unable to log in..." I repeated the "Re-test" and still, the green notice came up, clicked on "Done" and the yellow notice came up, as if it is in a endless loop.

Error message image (screenshot) defines the issue, how do I fix this?


I was never prompt for a password. Which is why no email was loaded for viewing. I am using 0Auth2 for password access. Thunderbird version 128.7.0esr (64-bit) Ubuntu version 24.04.2 LTS

Is there a "current" correct setup procedure that works, that I can use?

I opened an e-mail that was on the inbox, and when I wanted to delete that e-mail up came a message that if I deleted the message all linked or connected e-mails will be deleted (may not be exact terminology). I later found that this is what comes up if an e-mail in the trash folder is deleted, but the one involved was not in the trash, but in the Inbox. I was unable to do anything to get away from the message by clicking cancel or close. When I finally clicked on the delete button it deleted all of the unread messages that were in the Inbox. I tried several things, restarting Thunderbird, restarting the computer (a rebuilt HP device with no previous problems) to no avail. Do you have an explanation?

Emails in two of my inboxes (maybe all four) are randomly disappearing. None of my email templates are showing up in either of my two template folders. This started two days ago and I cannot figure it out. Emails get downloaded, then some are just vanish but are still on the servers. Repairing the folders does nothing, but folder properties on my template folders show the number of messages that should be there. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Is there any way to get Thunderbird to show ICS files? Right now it just shows the contents as unusable trash in the email body.

Before anyone says it, toggling 'Display attachments inline' doesn't do anything. Enabling a calendar in Thunderbird allows the 'accept' etc buttons, but then I have to deal with the headache of a calendar in Thunderbird and still doesn't show the ICS file so I can use it with my actual calendar app.

Calendar events not showing up on Calendar unless Notify attendees is unchecked

When I create a calendar event, it will not show up in the calendar view (Month), even after trying several times. What I found is, it will only show up on the calendar if I uncheck the Notify Attendees box at the bottom, which is by default always checked. After I uncheck the Notify attendees box on an event, that event, and each successive event will then show up on the calendar, regardless if I have the Notify attendees box checked or unchecked. I looked to see if I can uncheck this box in Settings, but do not see where this can be done.

Is there a way to have the Notify attendees box unchecked by default when I create a new calendar event?

Filter to move messages of a certain age from IMAP folders to Local Folders

I use an extension called FiltaQuilla that allowed me to create a filter like so: Folder name is Joe Blow Age in days is >30 Move message to Joe Blow in Local Folders … (jàng ci lu gën a bari)

I use an extension called FiltaQuilla that allowed me to create a filter like so: Folder name is Joe Blow Age in days is >30 Move message to Joe Blow in Local Folders

This allowed me to move older messages to an equivalent folder in Local Folders to keep from using up IMAP space. At some point, this silently stopped working. Now, nothing happens when I run my filters on the IMAP folders. The >30 day old emails remain in that folder.

I'm guessing it's an issue with FiltaQuilla, and probably needs to be asked of them. But that brings up a new question: has this ability been integrated into Thunderbird recently? Is there another way I can do this without an extension?

Hello, We have problem with sending and receiving e-mails. Sometimes Thunderbird just stops receiving e-mails. We can send messages but they can be saved only in local folder. In browser e-mails arrive and we can send them without any problems so it has to be some problem with Thunderbird. We were trying a lot of solutions, but only one works - creating new profile. It is very time-consuming solution, because we have to copy all e-mails, contacts, user settings, etc and we have to create a new profile couple times in a month... We were trying to off our antyvirus, forget password, etc. Probably there is some problem with certificates, but we do not know how to fix it. We use IMAP. Let me know what we can do to solve this problem, because creating new profiles is too tiring... :(

I am on a MacBook M1 using Sequoia v15.3.1, running Thunderbird v128.7. I have been through many of the forums and also done Google searches, but have not been able to find a way to search for events in the calendar. When I am in the calendar and type a query into the search field, it will only search in messages. I have not found anything in settings that allows me to change this nor have I found any options available on the screen for searching only calendar events. I know there has to be a way that I am just not seeing. Also, there seem to be different options in view on the Windows version than in the Mac version and many of the solutions call for accessing a button or command that I don't see in the Mac version.

For nearly a year, now, I've been very happily receiving my YouTube comment notifications regularly and quite satisfyingly. Since this latest update, suddenly they are not showing up in any part of my INBOX, when I check my e-mail.

I've checked all the settings I can find, regarding notifications -- both on YouTube and Thunderbird. I changed a couple of things that shouldn't have made any difference, and they didn't.

I have three YouTube channels, and I tried switching to my earliest one as the "official" one that uses my lindawing2@gmail.com e-mail sign-in, hoping that that might make things work again. I had it set, before to my Grandma's Got Grace channel (which is my third channel), and that didn't make any difference, either. My other channel is Grandma's Gone Gaming. It also uses lindawing2@gmail.com for my sign-in. So I didn't bother trying to change over to that one.

I'm still getting ALL (and that's a huge listing every day) of my notifications under the bell, in the YouTube menu, but I don't care for the way those work. I MUCH prefer the way the Thunderbird e-mail has been processing those notifications for quite some time, now ... until the latest update.

This is very frustrating. The change has also affected notifications that I usually get from other channels (those by friends who have their own websites and/or chat channels set up, that allow me to ask for notifications of messages they send me).

I'm getting NO notifications at all, in my Thunderbird app, now. Period.

I have a single Outlook email set up to route mail to folders and only mail from my contacts to the Inbox.

It's a good setup. I check folders when I feel like it. Junk much less. The inbox when it arrives.

I want Thunderbird to only notify for mail to my Inbox.

There does not appear to be a way.

I did try the NTFNTF add-on. It looks cool and has check boxes, but does nothing. I'm running the latest Thunderbird Version 128.6.1esr

For now, and perhaps forever, I just let my phone alert me. It only does inbox (the normal).

Using Thunderbirds junk filters is not an option for normal people who check and receive mail with more than just the one device!

So, is there something I missed or an add-on that I missed (and works for this version) ?

Can this behaviour be changed so that after dropping the file off, the focus returns directly to the inbox, saying a bunch of keystrokes? Cheers
