Shortcuts I create through "customize" disappear when I restart

OS: Win 7 Mozilla: 29.0.1

I go to "Customize" and drag the shortcut icons I want into a spot just to the right of the URL bar. They all work fine during my session, but when I close and re-open M, the icons have disappeared. So I have to put them back there through "Customize" each time.

How can I fix this or what am I doing wrong.
