Thunderbird hangs when downloading emails with Cloudmark Desktop One enabled

I have recently begun using Cloudmark Desktop One v.1.8.0.28 with Thunderbird v.31.1.2 on a modern Lenovo laptop with 8 GB of memory running W7 Pro. Cloudmark seems to be working as expected but the switch from Spamfighter (which I have, of course, disabled) has coincided with intermittent freezing of Thunderbird while incoming emails are being downloaded. This interruption is mirrored by the rotating 'waiting' icon on the toolbar and can last several minutes, depending on the number of new emails.

Only Thunderbird is affected rather than the whole PC (running Windows 7 Pro) so I can switch to other programs while Tbird remains frozen. When I disable Cloudmark the problem doesn't occur; when I re-enable it, the problem is back.

I am guessing this is a two or three way contest. Your anti virus could also be playing a role.

Restart the operating system in safe mode with networking and see if the same issues continue.

Many thanks for the thought, Matt, but I don't understand what going into safe mode can achieve compared with disabling my anti virus program, AVG, independently (I've tried this and it makes no difference). Also, being intermittent, it is not easy to identify whether the hanging problem is cured by a given action or merely failing to occur for a while; and spending extended periods in safe mode is not ideal.

OK, I've finally sussed this. It is a bit obscure but I hope the solution is of use to someone faced with the same problem in future. In my first post I said I had disabled SPAMfighter within Thunderbird when I installed Cloudmark. Now, on a hunch, I have uninstalled it from my machine. This made all the difference and Cloudmark is working perfectly. Matt was right in saying it was a conflict - in fact, one between SPAMfighter and Cloudmark.
