I cannot restart after pausing applets from my university. Forced to close them then reopen.

I am working from open.ac.uk. Each time I pause an audio o video applet the cursor sticks to the applet window. My only work around is to move my pointer off the window, click the desktop, then hover the mouse above the X on the inactive applet then click. This gets rid of the applet. I wish that I could pause and play these at will. Thanks

Hello Toppan, try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).

If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:

  • click the menu button New Fx Menu, click Help Help-29 and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.

If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:

  • On your Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.

When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".
Safe Mode Fx 15 - Win

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.

To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem.

thank you

Is this about the HTML5 media player that plays a media file or about Java applets as those are normally meant when you refer to applets?

Can you attach a screenshot?

  • Use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot
  • Make sure that you do not exceed the maximum size of 1 MB

Note that when a plugin has focus that you need to move the focus elsewhere to make the keyboard work on web pages.

here it is, I believe its Java but I could be wrong. This is an audio file

I understand about the app having focus. what happens in when I press pause or stop the cursor sticks to the app i.e. if i move the mouse after pressing pause or stop not only does the cursor move but the applet as well so it becomes bonded one to the other. It will only release as described above.
