I simply want to keep as much of my personal information as possible to myself. I would like to know which search engine is the most ethical in terms of mining user data.

Good question!

DuckDuckGo make it a point not to track their users and I know a lot of Mozillians like them: http://duckduckgo.com/

Best thing is that DuckDuckGo is included in the Firefox search engine list straight out of the box!
