how can I get the Google Translate listen button to work?
windows XP, flash player 18, firefox 39
In Google Translate, after entering a word to be translated when I click the "Listen" button (the loud speaker shaped icon) it turns red and I get no audio response.
When I do this in Internet Explorer 8 it works perfectly.

don't use windows xp, it is no longer supported.
Also, it is best to use all Google services with Google Chrome
Windows XP is not the problem. Windows XP SP2 and above is supported by Firefox 39 (the newest version of Firefox) which makes sense because millions of people still use it and cannot run out and pop for a new computer. Just because Microsoft stopped support for XP doesn't mean everyone else has. Even the US military still uses XP in many applications. The current Google translate client is also supported for Windows XP and above. I got this information off of their websites.
This feature works perfectly in chrome and in explorer but not in Firefox. Logic (which isn't always infallible) would imply that if a simple button on a webpage that plays a little sound clip works in these other browsers it should work in Firefox also. I suspect its a setting or something that is wrong or a missing add-on or perhaps a bug in Firefox. I have the same problem on my android smart phone.
Try to enable the Shockwave Flash plugin as this plugin might be used to detect the language. Check if there is a Lego block icon at the left end of the location/address bar.
You may also have to enable mixed active content temporarily.
Tried all of this with no result. Uninstalled Flash and went to Adobe site and installed version specifically for Firefox with no result. Also checked to make sure it supports XP and it does. Everything is enabled. Mixed content add-on didn't change it. Disabled protective mode in flash because it sometimes causes hangs but that didn't work either. No Lego blocks.
When I click the button it changes color as though it is working but no audio plays. Its as if the audio player (flash) cant be found.
Thanks for your input cor-el. BTW, are you related to Kal-el?
