The method described in the help file for selecting multiple recipients does work in case of a new email. However, if I want to select multiple recipients for an email I want to forward the recipients appear in a new email, not in the one to be forwarded. How to overcome this? Thank you.

Sounds like you are trying to start a forward email in the address book. That does not work for forwards and is not really the best place to start any message. Open the Write window. Turn the Contact Sidebar on by pressing F9. Select the contact or contacts from there. If you want more than 1 contact hold the control key while clicking contacts. When you have them all selected use one of the Add To buttons at the bottom of the Pane.
