I have a custom search plugin. It is not working from FF40 onwards. I have tried putting the file in the profiles folder. Did the renaming thing also. None of it resolved the issue. Any suggestions ?

hi vishals1991, as of firefox 40 you can no longer place searchplugin.xml files within the firefox program folder. it should still work though if you create a folder named "searchplugins" within your profile folder. Also the name of the custom search plugin shouldn't be the same as one of the preloaded search engines (yahoo, google, etc.)...

Yes. I have tried that already by following https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-where-firefox-stores-user-data. The name is different from the existing ones.

You can also use the Mycroft Project to create a custom search plugin. http://mycroftproject.com/

Mycroft was part of MozDev until a few years ago when it was spun off to its' own domain.
