I have 10 bookmarks to a website that, while it used a .ru to open (its was entirely in english btw), the .ru is now depreciated and switched to a .org

only problem is, I want to mass edit the url's so I can change all the .ru's to .org's

how do?

To open the Bookmarks Manager, press the Alt or F10 key bring up the tool bar, and select Bookmarks. Hot key is <Control>(Mac=<Command>) <Shift> B.

At the top of the page is a search bar. Enter some of the site's name. From the list, you can edit or remove what you want.

that doesn't tell me how to MASS-EDIT every bookmark url to the correct one, only tells me how to edit them one at a time

I want to edit them ALL at the same time to correct their starting url's

Firefox doesn't do that. But there could be an add-on that does.

Go to the Mozilla Add-ons Web Page {web link} (There’s a lot of good stuff here) and search for what you want.

FreeMcD, unless anyone else responds, I'm trolling through the list after searching bookmark edit, and so far, it only shows different UI's and features that DON'T pertain to what I want

edit bookmark plus was one I thought would help, but I still need to load each page and update the url ONE AT A TIME

I just want an addon that will let me mass edit all the url's to the correct .org version, not one that stil forces me to manually edit them one at a time (I tried editing them through notepad by editing the places.sqlite file, but it broke my bookmarks, had to restore from a copy I made)

That's all we can offer. Sorry  :-\

I had a thought. Save your bookmarks to an HTML file. Using a Word type program, you can remove all other bookmarks. Then mass edit using Replace All. Then re-import the edited list.

Or

Save to the HTML file, remove all bookmarks from Firefox. Mass edit what you want. Then re-import the edited file.

I should've thought of this earlier; this did for me (the second option); apparently importing while there's still bookmarks doesn't work, so I had to delete ALL bookmarks, then import (I made a backup of my bookmarks from earlier just in-case

It took me a while to think of it myself.

sorry to undo that being the solution, but while it WAS ONE, apparently importing through html, editing then exporting apparently has the effects of pear-shaping my toolbar bookmarks

will try it again, but only delete main bookmarks, mainly my folder containing the .ru ones

It is only ten bookmarks you are talking about why not just edit them directly one at a time it won't take more than a couple of minutes.

You may even find each old bookmark redirects to the equivalent new page if so you use the old bookmark to open the new page. Bookmark the new page location and then delete the old one.

The database itself may be edited, directly but it needs special software or a special add-on and is not going to be worth the effort.

It is simple to manually edit a few bookmarks

  1. open the bookmarks library { e.g use Ctrl+Shft+B)
  2. search for the bookmarks if necessary
for instance if you had bookmarked this question and some others you may search for "questions" or "ort.moz"
  3. Once you can see the bookmarks select each one in turn
  4. Selected bookmarks show by default the name, location & tags, the location is the url. Edit it directly in the lower part of the window in the box or field that says location.

Alternatively search for the bookmarks from the address bar, edit them there, make a new bookmark, and delete the old one.
