i cannot stop the migration of every saved email from gmail to thunderbird. I unchecked every imap box on gmail except for inbox. I have no section called syncronization on thunderbird, so i can't do anything there. I really need help. The number of messages i have on gmail is in the thousands. I am using windows 7. I always upgrade thunderbird when it requests an upgrade.

Maybe the account is POP not IMAP. POP doesn't have the synchronisation option.

Did you look under Tools|Account Settings for the synchronisation settings?

I did look very carefully. there is no synchronization under tools account settings on my installation of Thunderbird, which i have been using and updating since Microsoft did away with outlook express. Maybe that syncronization tool is only available on windows 10 thunderbird????? I'm pulling at straws here.

It is pop but I was able to change my old messages to imap and those new ones coming in as pop and that appears to have solved my dilemma. Thank you. Your help got me pointed to where I needed to be. I appreciate your input. Have a great day! Rick
