I have tried all the suggestions (including starting my computer in safe mode, turning off avast etc...) but still no luck.

I have no problem using the Mail app from Apple or third party client such as PolyMail. But Thunderbird is not working.

Anyone out there with the same issue?

Ok, I have no idea what happened but this morning it's working fine. so I don't have a solution to offer, but happy it's finally working.
