First, Type about:preferences#advanced<enter> in the address bar. Under Advanced, Select Update.

[v57+] Type about:preferences#general<enter> in the address bar. Select Update.

Select Never Check For Updates.

Also turn off Use a background service to install updates

If you still want to downgrade, look under; I still want to downgrade. Click the Directory of other versions and languages link. Look for the directory of the version that you want. But, remember that old versions may have security issues.

Thanks for the answer. What are you at Mozilla are going to do about the missing APIs needed for Firefox to continue supporting mentioned plugins?

Also so far the "all new" Firefox Developer Version or the new native Code Inspector in Firefox have not been proven to be an effective substitute for Firebug.

There is a new "session manager":

I haven't tried it myself. It can't directly access the data of the other Session Manager extension but there may be a way to move it over.

There is nothing quite like Saved Password Editor because extensions are not currently allowed that level of access to your saved login data. I don't know if such access will be allowed in Firefox 59+; it's obviously very sensitive.

Rather than be dependent on Firefox's built-in password manager, you might consider using a service like Bitwarden. That will allow you to move your passwords among your browsers, but yes, it does move your data to the cloud.

I reverted back yesterday. Changed the update settings as you explained. When I came back into the office today Firefox was updated to Version 57 again... probably did it over night... so I had to go and revert to 56 again this morning. This time I also changed the update URL under "about:config" as well to "http://127.0.0.1/". The config options to change are: "app.update.url" and "app.update.url.details".

Here's hoping.
