Why are you installing 64 bit in folder "Program Files (x86)" instead of "Program Files" for x64 bit software?

"Mozilla Support Team,"

This is not for "Our volunteers" of Mozilla support, so do be offended by this message and question.

My system is 64 bit and have always run Mozilla FireFox x86 program. Now when 'force fed' the latest version 57,0, the 64bit version, was installed in "x86 folder." Now I went to your location for "https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/" AND downloaded the "64bit" version, (Copy/Paste from the above link) "English (US)," and it is attempting to install in folder "Program Files (x86)/Mozilla FireFox/" on my system that is for 32bit software. IF it is actually "64bit" why are you installing in a "32bit" folder? "Consistency" is a hall-mark of good dependable reliable activity, this is "NOT" consistent with how this system is setup. I know all I need to do is change the location to the "64bit" location and will do just that, this activity on your part is adding to the confusion for those that are less aware of computers. TIA, CU L8R, 'd' NTLS "LoneWanderer" NOT an expert, that is a "has been drip under pressure"

hi, if firefox is/was already installed as 32bit version in the Program Files (x86)/Mozilla Firefox/ directory, an update to 64bit or a newly downloaded installer will continue occupying this particular folder (we tried otherwise, but that caused various problems with outdated shortcuts, if firefox was set as default browser, etc). in order to resolve the issue, uninstall firefox through the system control panel and then reinstall it through the downloaded setup file.

"philipp,"

May I apologize for my neglect, I quote, in part, from top line of my original post "...so do be offended..." should read "...so do not be offended..." referring to the volunteers.

Your post did not solve my issues, but; has shed some light on why and what for... A little understanding, just frustrated that they did not give any clues to explain what is going on in the INSTALLER. I have been working on getting changed over to the "64bit" for some time, the first was about v51.x and also had some difficulties. BUT, this move to v57.0 was a very large leap backwards, not allowing "PasswordMaker" to use the *.rdf" file and the import did not do any good either. I had just short of 200 passwords and none of them work at all now even with the v57.0.2. Keeps telling me the "Master Passwords" do not match, there is only one place to enter it in the 'Drop down' for "Password Maker" there is also a place to enter said password in the 'Test the profile' and one "Drop down/Options/General Options 'had' a place at one time, now it is gone. PLUS the "Drop down" box had only one place, now suddenly there are two (2) and they do not match either. It is constantly changing how it will display data/selectables/inputs, my list of 79 Profiles are now gone after spending almost four (4) hours selecting the ones I want or need and how do we delete those we do not want, that is from "Importing" from a 'TXT' file of my original 'RDF' file.

Also feel these messages should be DIRECTLY forwarded to the team that is screwing up our systems. They have done a wonderful job in the past, NOT with this Quantum Leap backwards.

You are rude. If you do not like Volunteers, do not ask questions. You want it in C:\Program Files only then do this : uninstall Firefox. Then Delete the Mozilla Firefox Folders in C:\Program Files and C:\Program Files(x86) Note: your Firefox Profile is saved. But you should make a back up before you do :

Reinstall with Current Release Firefox 57.0.2 with a Full Version Installer

Have a Great Holiday from the Mozilla Firefox Volunteer Support Team.

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

Pkshadow,

Thank you for your opening comment; in my original post, I agree with your evaluation, but; if you had read that next post you would know that it was not meant to be that way. I apologized for that typing error, or maybe you just enjoy throwing stones. Enough of this, time to move on.

Just so you know about my self, Journeyman Electronics Techy with over 65 years experience with other skills thrown in to keep busy. Started working with Data General 19" Main Frame 64bit computers about 1974 through 1981 moving into Desktops/w Green Screens (Zeniths/w 5..25" floppy drives) then into IBM compatibles about 1984. Worked in BTOS, MSDOS, Unix and was manager of a small computer system with 36 dumb terminals keeping records on approx 80 million dollars worth of calibration equipment for the U.S. Air Force at our Type II PMEL (Precision Measurement Equipment Laboratory) surfing the web before the www and Windows were ever setup. Enough of this, not any formal schooling just the plain old 'Trial & ERROR' or "School-of-Hard-Knocks" where you never graduate nor given any sort of diploma. A troubleshooter and analyst to solve my own problems with some HELP from these forums when the problem cannot be solved by me nor on my system.

Do not use any sugar coated words to make it sound sweet and easier to swallow, straight forward truthfully from my point of view. Don't hold back on anything. When I do make an error it is admitted to and there is an apology. If you cannot accept that, it is not my fault, doing the best I can. I too am a volunteer, help other people that cannot afford the GEEKS to pay them a visit when they, the people, make errors and cause a crash, make every effort to train them to correct their own errors and not have so many crashes. When the need to travel about 20 - 30 miles and only one way, still have to come back home, without getting paid for my efforts it 'ain't easy' nor very much fun. Just the pleasure of knowing even the underprivileged need help and training. I retired in 1993 and have been doing this ever since. Have been using FF since about version 2.0, actually have been using it since before FF, in Netscape.

Enough about me, I presently have both 64bit versions. one (x86) folder and one 64 bit, on my system both v57.0.2. Should I remove them both, after doing the backup of ~\User name\App\Roaming\Mozilla FireFox\Default Profile with all the folders needed to re-establish my operations. As it stands at this time every time I open FF things are different and while in operation things change from one point to the next.

Thank you for reading my lengthy message am awaiting your return

TIA, CU L8R, 'd' "LoneWanderer" NTLS Merry Xmas, hope to hear from you before New Years eve, if not Have a "Happy New Year Celebration " as well as a SAFE one.

Well apologize myself for that. I am in 60's but not server trained.

Yes if doing a clean install on both , backup and export both and delete the folders prior to reinstalling. On both systems.

You find both programs on the download Full Installer URL. this is part of the fix instead of the smaller Stub Installer (though that has been improved this year also). Deleting both folders will get rid of all the prior patched Netscape code and have nice new folders filled with just Quantum code.

I do not know why things would be changing every time you opened it. Sorta strange. Well if continue with the directions uninstall, delete folders for both and reinstall with appropriate version will hope this fixes that. If not that can be looked into and might be a corrupted Profile.
