After I open the pdf document either from a website or from my computer firefox asks me which program I want the pdf to be opened with. After selecting firefox and its built in pdf reader it continuesly opens tabs. I think each one of these tabs opens the other after prompting from which program to be used for the pdf.

This stopped for a while after reinstalling firefox, however it started just a couple of weeks later. I am suspecting the trigger might be that I open quite large pdfs (250MB).

I have tried removing the handler.json file but that didnt solve it unfortunately.

Did you try to open it in a Adobe pdf reader to see the if problem happens there?

No it doesn't happen in Adobe pdf. However, that is no option for me.

This happens when you select Firefox as the application to handle the file, but Firefox isn't able to do this. This might be because Firefox doesn't recognize the file as a PDF file because the server doesn't send it as application/pdf or the builtin PDF Viewer is disabled.
