I frequently get an "Unresponsive Script" message in Thunderbird that locks up my entire computer. I am running a mac with macos High Sierra 10.13.6; Thunderbird 52.9.1.

I have tried starting Thunderbird with no apps and this does not solve the problem.

Please help. Let me know if you need more info.

My guess is the unresponsive script is Thunderbird's response to the device freezing, not the other way around. I really see it as a very unlikely thing that a JavaScript could freeze a multi processor, multi threaded operating system. However what script is it complaining about? Is it consistent?

I noticed something on the last unresponsive script message. It was about my forwarded gmail. I'm going to halt that forwarding & see if I still have the problem.
