I used to get my PDF bank statements with no problem. Recently I go into the bank's site, ask for the statement, and instead of seeing the actual statement I see a screen like the one in the attached image. I called the bank and they said it was an issue with the new version of Firefox, and I was able to access the statements using the Edge browser. How can I fix this in Firefox? I use Win 10 64 bit.

Hi hospes.primus, I just went to my bank for my PDF bank statement and all that I got was a blank page.

But, then I went to: Menu -> Options -> General page and under Applications set PDF to Use Adobe Reader.

Statement in hand.

Thank you! I use Sumatra PDF rather than Adobe Reader, but changing the PDF application from the built-in Firefox preview to Sumatra worked.

I marked the problem as solved since I can now get my statements, but if it's true that a change in FIrefox has caused it not to work with banks and such sites, I hope that will be fixed to avoid problems for users.

It's probably the difference between Preview and Print ???

At least we know how to work it!

Glad I could help.

Hello hospes.primus,

I noticed that you marked your own post as Chosen Solution instead of My_Cheese_Is_Slippin's first post .....

In case you'd like to rectify it, you can click on the "Undo" button to the right of the post that you have now marked, and then mark My_Cheese_Is_Slippin's post ("Solved the Problem" button to the right of that post).

Thank you in advance !

Hi hospes.primus, was that the only site where Firefox's built-in PDF Viewer was behaving strangely, or was it affecting PDFs from all sites??

Thanks, McCoy -- I fixed this (I think; I am new to the forum).

Only the bank site.

hospes.primus, One other thing that I noticed. If you have the App handler for PDF set to Always Ask and select Open In Firefox - it won't do it but, it will save a copy to a Temp folder. So, check those containing folders for documents.

By the way, unless the setting is "Preview in Firefox", sending a PDF to Firefox won't actually display the PDF in Firefox. In the worst case scenario, you can end up with an infinite loop: Firefox repeatedly opens empty tabs or windows after you click on a link.

I always get an empty tab when I select OK, but, I haven't had an infinite loop. Not yet, anyway.

By the way, the containing folder is: C:/User/<YourName>/AppData/Local/Temp

Having the same problem on two banking sites. I can log in on one site but then the page goes blank, but on the other site I can see one page after logging in , and then the page goes blank. I tried resetting the PDF to Adobe Reader but that did not change anything.

No problems opening the sites in Edge and IE11 FF 73.0b9 (64-bit) Win 10 Home

You should either select "Preview in Firefox" to use the builtin PDF Viewer or use the Ask setting and choose an external PDF viewer. In case of the latter will Firefox save the PDF file to the temp folder and pass the file to the application. Never select Firefox if you aren't using "Preview in Firefox" because with that choice you disable viewing PDF files in Firefox and Firefox can't handle the PDF file.

I have PDF set to Always Ask, but the sites will not load. According to the bank, 'The Firefox browser doesn't always allow [Bank Name] members to login appropriately. This is due to Firefox updates not allowing a connection to establish to our servers'

Does it make a difference if you select "Preview in Firefox" and if necessary use the download button to open the PDF file in another application ?

I am not trying to download any pdf files. I am just trying to get logged into two banking sites. After I submit the login information nothing happens when I use FF, but I can access the sites normally using IE and Edge

If you are posting about a completely different problem with the one discussed in the thread, you probably should start a new question.

You can use this link:

https://support.mozilla.org/questions/new/desktop/websites

Scroll down past suggestions on that page and the ones that follow to continue with the form.

Also, consider: If you are getting a blank page, make sure the redirect block is turned off:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste access and pause while the list is filtered

(3) If the accessibility.blockautorefresh preference is bolded and "modified" or "user set" to true, double-click it to restore the default value of false

Actually I am having both problems. I don't really care about the inability to use FF for PDF files as there is a workable work-around, using Adobe Reader, I checked accessibility.blockautorefresh , but it is bolded and set to false. I tried the other solutions at the link you recommended and was able to access both sites in safe mode, but not when opening FF normally.

The main difference between Firefox's Safe Mode and regular mode are that extensions are disabled in Firefox's Safe Mode. So you may need to consider whether one of your extensions is interfering with the site's flow from its login page to the site content. New thread.

It looks like the free VPN addon was causing the problem. addons://detail/{35bd46ad-3583-4839-9336-105ce8a7e9a0} Thank you.
