Recently every time I try to print something, it is coming out very small. I don't know how to fix it. I've tried to fit to page option and that didn't work. When I go on IE no problems printing. Please help!!

Hi dp1651, which of these is the better description:

(A) Firefox uses the full page but the text is tiny

(B) Firefox no longer uses the full page, it scales everything down to one corner (e.g., upper left 1/4 of the page)

Problem (A) usually is caused by scaling. Either the page layout isn't compatible with Shrink to Fit, or Shrink to Fit was turned off and Firefox is using a fixed percentage like 50% to size the text.

If you call up the page in Print Preview -- either

  • "3-bar" menu button > Print
  • (menu bar) File > Print Preview

-- the toolbar shows the current scaling settings.

Alternately, you can try a reset as follows:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box in the page, type or paste shrink and pause while the list is filtered

Firefox will list the Shrink to Fit setting for each printer you have used. If any are false double-click them to switch them back to true.

(3) In the search box in the page, type or paste scaling and pause while the list is filtered

Firefox will list the scaling ratio for each printer you have used. If any are not 100% -- represented by either 1 or 1.00 -- double-click it to display an editing field, and change the value to 1 then press Enter or click the blue check mark button to save the change.

Success?

Problem (B) usually is caused by paper settings that Firefox (mis)read from Windows. Or if you switch between a regular printer and a label printer, Firefox getting mixed up as to which printer uses which paper.

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box in the page, type or paste paper_data and pause while the list is filtered

Generally speaking, 1 refers to letter sized (8.5 x 11) and 9 refers to A4 sized. If Firefox has stored a different value, try editing it to either of those standard sizes instead. Double-click the preference to display an editing field, change the value to 1 (or 9) and then press Enter or click the blue check mark button to save the change.

Success?
