Transfer of Mozilla profile from Windows 10 to Ubuntu
Before transferring my wife's laptop from a slow Windows 10 to Ubuntu, I copied her Thunderbird profile (with several accounts, files, and forgotten passwords). The folder ("Thunderbird") includes another folder "Profiles" which contains a single file xxxxxxxx.default of 267 GB, which I imagine contains the information I want to transfer. The Thunderbird folder also has profiles.ini and installs.ini, and folders Pending Pings and Crash Reports. I have tried transferring Profiles folder and profiles.ini to the new .thunderbird folder, removing the old ones. I have tried creating a new profile, and removing it, renaming the old xxxxxxxx.default with the new name, but with every attempt Thunderbird launches asking me to enter new details, and has no accounts, mails etc. Please can somebody tell me how to use the information from the saved profile to set up Thunderbird with the old accounts, settings and files?

I hope the default files are still intact. I think that's true because Thunderbird starts. If you copied your wife's profile folder (the one with 267 gb) to the thunderbird\profiles folder, then you're almost there. Click help>moretroubleshootinginformation, scroll down to 'Profiles', click 'about:profiles' and you should see your wife's listed. You can click the option there to use it as your default.
Success. It had some reluctance to set the new profile as default, but all achieved (and very relieved, thank you!).
You're very welcome. An unhappy wife is not a good life. :)
