I was recently doing some clean-up of old programs I don't use anymore via Control Panel > Add/remove programs (on Windows XP), and afterward my add-ons suddenly stopped working. They didn't say they're disabled or anything, but it's as if I have them all disabled when I know I don't. I suspect it might've been the "Bing Bar" that I uninstalled that did it, but why would that have anything to do with my Firefox add-ons? Any help?

Which add-ons are you referring to?

  • Tools > Add-ons > Extensions

It is possible that there is a problem with the file(s) that store the extensions registry.

Delete the files extensions.* (e.g. extensions.sqlite, extensions.ini, extensions.cache) and compatibility.ini in the Firefox profile folder to reset the extensions registry.

New files will be created when required.

See "Corrupt extension files":

If you see disabled, not compatible, extensions in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" then click the Tools button at the left side of the Search Bar (or click the "Find Updates" button in older Firefox versions) to check if there is a compatibility update available.

If this hasn't helped then also try to delete the addons.sqlite file.

I had to have actually uninstalled something by accident and that made my extensions stop working, because it happened RIGHT AFTER I finished my program-cleanup. Whatever that was, I need it back apparently. Also, it doesn't say anything about it being disabled or incompatible. They're all enabled, yet none of them do anything.

Well, I tried your suggestion, and it worked like a charm! Turns out extensions.ini got corrupted somehow (I know that because it was a mysterious 0 KB when it shouldn't have been). Thanks a bunch! Guess the program-uninstalling thing was just a coincidence...
