One of my Firefox profiles crashed. On restart, the tabs, search bar or navigation did not work. When I would click for new tab, nothing would come up. When I would type in a URL in the navigation and hit enter, nothing would come up. When I would use the search bar and search something on any of the searches, nothing would come up. When I would right click on a link on the page that is already there (Mozilla.org) and click open in new tab; nothing would come up. When I would click on a bookmark in my bookmark toolbar, nothing would come up. When I would go to Tools and then click on the Add-ons, nothing would come up.

You can check for problems with the localstore.rdf file.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do not click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

You may need to create a new profile or reset Firefox if you can't fix that profile. Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

You can also try to reset Firefox:
