Firefox crashes immediately
Hi,
I'm having a problem with Firefox crashing immediately on launch. It goes directly to the crash reporter.
I've tried holding shift while double clicking the Firefox icon to enter safe mode, but it crashes exactly the same way.
I've uninstalled and resinstalled Firefox. It then loads properly upon first launch but all subsequent launches crash immediately as before.
Here are the last two crash IDs: bp-1814a499-852e-45c3-bbe6-bc3fc2130721 bp-c33c8806-8ae0-45af-8032-d37672130721
I'm running Maywarebytes and it says the system is clean.
Any help would be very appreciated

Hello,
Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
Then perform these steps:
- Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
- In the Firefox options window click the Advanced tab, then select "General".
- In the settings list, you should find the Use hardware acceleration when available checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
- Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:

Thanks for the reply.
I have just disabled hardware acceleration as you said. Unfortunately it didn't seem to fix the issue.
I was able to get Firefox to launch only once, right after the initial startup after a fresh install. During this first session I went to the options and disabled hardware acceleration. I loaded google and typed in a term to test, everything runs fine. Upon hitting the X to close Firefox I immediately got a crash.
Any attempt to start Firefox again from the desktop icon goes directly to the crash reporter.
Here are two new crash IDs from the most recent fresh install(no extensions, new profile) of Firefox 22 stable: bp-ce3168bd-1c2c-450d-ae77-1f94e2130721 bp-ccbaaa63-7823-44b1-bc37-85c582130721
I can replicate this. I uninstall Firefox, delete the Mozilla directory in program files and the profile directory in appdata. Install Firefox again. The first session always starts properly. The subsequent sessions always crash upon start.
Hello,
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)
- You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
- Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.
Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"
If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article for that.
To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.
Thank you.
Hi,
Firefox safe mode does the same thing. Crash on startup immediately to the crash reporter.
I am holding down the shift key while doubleclicking the Firefox desktop icon. Is there another way to enter safe mode just to be sure? A command line switch or similar?
I just installed Firefox Beta 23 and it behaves the same way. First session loads fine, subsequent sessions always crash on start.

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:
- Microsoft Safety Scanner
- MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware
- TDSSKiller - AntiRootkit Utility
- Hitman Pro
- ESET Online Scanner
Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.
Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

I am running Malwarebytes Pro and Bitdefender. They both show the system as clean. It doesn't seem to be malware related.
What could cause Firefox to run normally on its first session after a clean install, but crash immediately every subsequent run?
Hello mj800, try to boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) and check firefox again.
(If works in Windows Safe mode then maybe you have a problem with other software, like security software or maybe a system driver, that is running on your computer).
thank you
