bookmarks menu invisible on the bookmarks toolbar
My drop-down bookmarks menu has disappeard from the bookmarks toolbar. When I try to customize the toolbar the icon is clearly visible on the toolbar. However, when I press "Done" it disappears again. The Bookmarks Toolbar Items remain visible. Does anyone have any ideas for how to fix that?
Thanks!

I haven't tried Cor-el solution yet, but here's what worked for me at the end:
I installed the Classic Bookmark Button add-on and that fixed the problem. After installation I had a new Bookmarks button in the customize menu, which I was able to drag onto the Bookmarks toolbar.

Do you have the menu bar visible?
You only get the Bookmarks Menu button if the menu bar is hidden and the orange Firefox menu button is visible.
- Firefox menu button > Options
- View > Toolbars (press F10 to display the menu bar)
- Right-click empty toolbar area
I don't use the orange Firefox menu button (though I'll gladly check if this solves the problem; how to I enable it?). However, this is a new problem, the Bookmarks Menu button was visible before I updated Firefox; so can't it be something else?
Some details: I use Firefox 23.0 with Ubuntu Linux 12.04 64-bit.
Thanks for your help!
This is still an open question. Anyone...?
Note that on Ubuntu things may be different because the window menu can't be disabled (Unity).
On Linux the Firefox menu button (it is gray on Linux) will be placed on the left hand side of the Tab bar if you hide the menu bar.
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
- Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.
Thanks again for your answer :)
I've switched to the default theme and then started firefox in Safe Mode. I then enabled the Bookmarks Toolbar and tried to insert the Bookmarks Menu button via Customize. The exact same problem persists though. I see clearly the Bookmarks Menu when I customize (and when I reopen Customize), but the moment I hit "done" it disapperas (everything else on the Bookmarks Toolbar--namely, the Bookmarks Toolbar Items--is still there, only this icon disappears).
Any ideas on what else might be causing this? :(
I have the same problem (exactly the same system and Firefox version) on my two Ubuntu computers. I tried every solution I could find in the net (including setting userChrome.css), but nothing helps. Any solutions there?
Add code to the userChrome.css file below the default @namespace line.
The customization files userChrome.css (user interface) and userContent.css (websites) are located in the chrome folder in the Firefox profile folder.
@namespace url("http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul"); /* only needed once */ #bookmarks-menu-button { display:-moz-box !important }

Thanks for the quick replies!
@cor-el: This solution does not work, unfortunately. @Goulash: This works perfect, thanks! Although it is to mention that it does not solve the problem by itself (I consider it as a bug) but provides a perfect replacement.
I had the same problem, couldn't get easy access to the Bookmark menu. So I added a Bookmarks folder to the Bookmarks toolbar and moved my existing bookmarks to that folder via Organize. Selected all, and then used Move. When I add a new bookmark via right-click, I select the Bookmarks folder on the Bookmarks Toolbar.
