Running windows 7 trying to update to latest version once setup.exe downloaded, after selecting Run, NOTHING happens. I have already uninstalled Mozilla, as well as the old Mozilla folder (after saving my data elsewhere)

All other browsers suck, but if I can't get this installed I'll be using something else. Really frustrated.

Does the installer just hang?

Note that the download from the main page is a stub that then retrieves the full installer. In case the stub program is failing (e.g., due to a firewall block), you can try the full installer available from the "all" page here: http://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/

If no installer works, have you tried restarting Windows? Sometimes the Windows installer gets a number of jobs backed up and stops working correctly until it can finish the jobs that are pending a restart of Windows.

Setup.exe is not the name of the firefox setup file. Download from.

Thanks. Took your advised steps. (I had previously re-booted.)

Not sure what you mean by 'hang'. But after I get through clicking on setup, then extraction, after clicking on Run nothing happens. Is that what you mean.

PS. The download and scan from Malwarebytes found 3 minor issues, nothing to speak of.

What next?

Thanks.

Is there a event viewer message, in the log, please copy/paste.

more options

Not sure. Where is the log?

more options

The Windows Event Viewer is under

Start > All Programs > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer

Or from the search box,

eventvwr.exe

Unless you clear your logs, it may take 30+ seconds to load.

There were a ton of events logged. But the only, and consistent (29 times) error tonight was:

"The McAfee Internet Content Filter Core Service service terminated unexpectedly."

The problem is that I don't even have McAfee on this machine (that I knew about or can find)!

A little web searching turns up this path for that service:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Content Filter\mfeicfcore.exe

Do you have that file? Not sure of the best way to deactivate or uninstall it.

more options

Yes, that is the file coming up.

Do you think that is related to the install problem?

I really don't know whether it's related. If the timestamps correspond to when you tried to run the installer, that could indicate a connection.

You should also see the Faulting Module name.

What other steps should I be taking? To this point, no joy on this.

Thanks.

May you please post the error message involving firefox.exe, it should be somewhat long, and at the end of the message (or near it) it should say faulting module name. Copy and paste the whole message.

Actually, from the event viewer program there is no firefox. exe error message that I can find.

There plenty of Bonjour Service errors in and around the problems with installing Firefox yesterday. There are plenty of the previously discussed errors with McAfee internet content filter.

Have you uninstalled such programs and then try installing firefox.
