Firefox's address bar has completely stopped giving me any suggestions, from either my History or Bookmarks. Firefox is saving my Bookmarks and my History (I can access them from the Firefox button), and, Options / Location Bar is set to "suggest History and Bookmarks".

I've tried Safe Mode, and even switching versions (trying Nightly, Waterfox, and the normal Firefox), and the problem still persists.

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.

(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)

  • You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article for that.

To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

Please report back soon.

Are you sure that you are using the address bar and not the search bar?

I editted my first post right before you posted, sorry.

Oh, and to answer your question about the search bar, that is certainly not the case. I even removed the search bar - the only field one can type in is the address bar (I set up the address bar to search google automatically quite a while back).

You can check the browser.urlbar.autocomplete.enabled pref on the about:config page and make sure that it is set to true.

I tried that earlier too.

It is set to true.

My issue isn't that bookmarks and history don't save - they do, and I can continue to access them. My bookmarks, including new ones, continue to be completely functional. It's only the suggestions that doesn't work.

In any case, it didn't solve my problem.

Well, for what it's worth, I searched the about:config page for "URL" and went through the non-default ones.

It seems browser.urlbar.autoFill was disabled and browser.urlbar.maxRichResults was set to zero. Not sure why or how it was like that, but at least it's sorted now.

Thanks for the help.
