When I attempt to open a web page with Windows Media Player embedded, Firefox locks up for about 30 seconds, then a message appears that says "Windows Media Player is busy or not responding."

It offers to let me continue waiting, or stop the DLL.

If I continue waiting, the page eventually loads, and Firefox wakes up.

The embedded media player has a gray background and nasty-looking circa 1998 controls. (It used to have contemporary controls, resembling stand-alone media player.)

Embedded media player still works correctly with Internet Explorer, and shows the correct controls and user interface.

I've already set plugins.load_appdir_plugins to true - that wasn't it.

This seems to be a recent issue - earlier versions of Firefox handled the embedded media player fine.

I have npdsplay.dll version 3.0.2.629 and np-mswmp.dll 1.0.0.8 installed.

Thanks.

Hello JacksBack,

Some plugins that are no longer maintained, like the Windows Media plugin, have their files installed in a place that Firefox no longer supports.

Please refer to:

You do have some addons that could cause general problems with pages like Adblock Plus and Ghostery, have you tried disabling all the addons in safe mode yet.
