I have several Firefox synced computers. Today I started Firefox on one of them and, instead of syncing my bookmarks, it just showed a 'most visited' group on the bookmark bar. After some browsing i saved all my tabs to a new bookmark folder, placed it on the bookmark tab and closed the program. After a while I ran Firefox again and, this time, the bar was populated with all my synced bookmarks with no trace of the bookmark folder I had just saved on the previous session. it was neither there nor on the full bookmark list.

Any chance that this bookmark folder could be recoverable?

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.

It is best to temporarily unlink this device from Sync before trying to repair or delete the places.sqlite file.

Thanks, but none of them solved my problem. The database seems to be sane. It looks as if the database that contained my missing bookmark folder was overwritten once the computer synced correctly.
