How can I make Firefox update itself on a Mac OS X system, without requiring any manual user intervention, and without the user using Firefox is having administrator rights? I want to make sure Firefox is always up to date for my users, without anyone having to do something. I know Chrome is doing this automatically on Mac OS X, but I am not sure whether this is possible with Firefox.

Yes it is, you can have updates set to automatic. Please see: Configuration Options for Updates
