I am trying to turn on Auto Complete in the URL address bar but need to get into the Edit menu first.

Probably simple when you know how but I can't find it!!

You can hit the Alt key or F-10 key to reveal the old Menu Bar, which has File, Edit, History, etc.

Hmm, I don't think you need the Edit menu on a Windows system. Are you running Linux?

The Options/Preferences dialog has 4 choices for what Firefox displays in the address bar drop-down list (auto-suggest):

  • Items from history and bookmarks (default)
  • Only items from history
  • Only items from bookmarks
  • Nothing

To access the dialog, you can use:

  • Windows: "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Privacy
  • Mac: "3-bar" menu button (or Firefox menu) > Preferences > Privacy
  • Linux: "3-bar" menu button (or Edit menu) > Preferences > Privacy

Toward the bottom, check the "Location Bar" setting.

There is a hidden setting for whether Firefox auto-fills the top item directly in the address bar as you type. To turn that on or off, you can use the about:config preferences editor. Note that this is on by default.

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste urlb and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the browser.urlbar.autoFill preference to switch it between true and false.

Does any of this help?
