After the last update, when I use Clear Recent History, the window never closes automatically, but seems to clear everything properly. Anyone else having the same problem?

Yep.Noticed this on my computer too.I have reported it to the firefox community abt this.

Most Firefox windows don't close until you close them.

Works for me in Firefox 42 on Linux.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window
