I recently installed Thunderbird and created two imap mailboxes. the first was relatively small, 212 messages, which downloaded from the server pretty quickly. The second account has 834 messages in the inbox, but has now taken well over a day. The progress report in the bottom left hand corner says it is up to message number 1735 and counting. It possible that I clicked Get Messages - possibly more than once. But still, is this normal? Many thanks for your help.

Perhaps your email provider somehow limits the access to the server. Give it a break, close Thunderbird and try again later.
