Can't watch Amazon Instant

more options

I am trying to watch Amazon Instant in Firefox. It works in Chrome just fine. Amazon gives me the error:

Install the free Silverlight plug-in; it will just take a minute. Please refresh this page when the installation completes.

If you have issues after installing, restart your browser and try again. If the issue persists, try using our new HTML5 video player on Chrome, Internet Explorer 11, Microsoft Edge or Opera.

But I do have Silverlight installed (see screenshot).

Hello there,

Unfortunately Win64 Firefox as of V44.0+ will only have the 64-bit Flash Player white listed currently and will not support Silverlight plugin anymore. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1080439

Hope this helps!

Hi Machine Master, that shouldn't affect the 32-bit version of Firefox, even on 64-bit Windows.

Hi Zenoxio, is Silverlight enabled? You can check on the Add-ons page, either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Plugins. On the right side, find "Silverlight Plug-In". If it is disabled, it will be toward the bottom.

Version Check Click the plugin's "More" link. If you do not have version 5.1.41212.0 (follow the More link for the plugin to check the full version number) you can update from here:

https://www.microsoft.com/getsilverlight/get-started/install/default.aspx

Activation Option Either "Ask to Activate" or "Always Activate" should work, but Amazon is a little impatient, so if you use Ask to Activate, you may get a warning in the page while you are activating that you have to dismiss.
