I used the program Acronis True Backup in 2015 to back the entire contents of my laptop (including Thunderbird), to an external hard drive. I am able to locate the backup Thunderbird profile on the external drive. I've created a new profile (called Backup) for this information. How can I retrieve it to my new profile? Thanks.

Close Thunderbird.

Delete the contents of the new profile directory you created. Do NOT delete the actual directory.

Copy and paste the contents of the backed up profile into the new profile using Windows Explorer (or whatever file manager your system uses). If your old profile was at ...\xyz and you created a xyz subdirectory in the new profile when you copied the contents of the old profile you did it wrong. Delete the contents of the new profile and try again.
