I have three email accounts. One with Optimum and 2 with Gmail. I use Thunderbird as a backup utility. I have set up separate accounts in Thunderbird for each of the three accounts and they are all listed in my profile. The problem is that when I log onto Thunderbird, it automatically fetches and downloads emails from one G mail account and saves it into both G mail accounts. In other words, if the inbox for Gmail account Number 1 had new messages, those messages are downloaded by Thunderbird into Gmail account 1 and G mail account 2 rather than just G mail account 1 where they were received. The same thing happens for emails received in Gmail account 2. They are downloaded into Gmail account 2 and 1 in Thunderbird. I would like for the inbox contents to download only to the corresponding Thunderbird Gmail folder and not both.

Are these really two separate Gmail accounts with different user ID and password, or just two alias addresses belonging to the same account?

They are really two separate Gmail accounts with different user ID and passwords. I have discovered that when I send a test email from my non-Gmail account (Optimum account) to either of the Gmail addresses, the email appears only in the designated G mail account and corresponding Thunderbird folder for that Gmail account in Thunderbird. However, if I send a test email from one of my Gmail accounts, the email appears in both of my Thunderbird Gmail folders for both of the Gmail accounts, In other words, an email is sent from optimum account to Gmail account 1. The email shows up in the inbox for Gmail account 1 and in the Thunderbird folder for Gmail account 1. However, if I send the same email from a Gmail account (as opposed to Optimum account(), it still shows up in the inbox for the actual Gmail account but also shows up in my Thunderbird folders not only for Gmail account 1 but Gmail account 2 as well. Only seems to happen when emails are sent from a Gmail account-not a non-Gmail account.

Follow up - Actually, it seems as though it only happens when the outgoing email is sent from one of my own Gmail accounts. It does not seem to happen when the email is sent from someone else's Gmail account. When sent from someone else's Gmail account, the email shows up only in the correct corresponding Thunderbird folder and not both.

I'd suggest you ask in a Google forum. Thunderbird has no control over what messages the server puts into which account.
