my laptop has just been updated so all software and files were erased so I reinstalled Thunderbird and used the back-up profile to restore folders and emails (although I seem to have lost last 2 days sent emails between pc being wiped and adding the backup profile. This does not really matter as I thought the BT office 365 version (its a bt email) would have a copy but I notice that any email I send are not copied back to the BT account (but the received messages are there) - how do I amend settings so when sending email in thunderbird my bt 0ffice 365 also gets it (which can then act as back-up if I loose thunderbird) Thanks ps I'm not too iT literate so simple reply please. I used the Thunderbird help to copy the profile and that was a nightmare as the steps described in the help do not match what I had to do! (and need out IT people to help)

What is your account type - POP or IMAP?

which can then act as back-up if I loose thunderbird

I wouldn't consider what's on the server as a backup. If you want to backup your messages, backup the entire Thunderbird profile. https://support.mozilla.org/kb/profiles-where-thunderbird-stores-user-data#w_backing-up-a-profile
