There's a lot of keyboard hotkeys in Gmail not working in my Firefox browser. The delete hotkey (#) works, contrary to some other people in the forums. Many others do not, such as (-) to mark a message as unimportant, (a) to respond to a message or (f) to forward a message.

I am using the newest FF 61 on Windows 10. Reinstalling the browser, using safemode or a new profile, even using Firefox on a different computer didn't solve the problem.

My Windows is set to German, but the hotkeys neither work with a German nor an English keyboard layouts.

Everything works fine using Internet Explorer or Edge though, so I suspect the problem to be Firefox-related.

So as far as I am concerned only the (-) key keyboard shortcut does not work at the moment.

Installing Saka Key fixed the problem, so it's definitely got something to do with Firefox and not Gmail.

How did you use Saka Key to work around this problem?

https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/saka-key/

Did it allow you to use - or did you need to assign a different key to that function?

According to this bug report there are issues with Gmail.

  • Bug 1471848 - Gmail: Pound (hash, #) sign to delete selected conversations no longer works since Wed Jun 27, works in Chrome

What keyboard layout (language) are you using in case this makes a difference?

Just installing it did the trick. At first I used the default keybindings shipped with the plugin but now I am using a new, empty profile which also works and does not interfere with other keybindings.

Strangely enough the Pound sign worked in my browser. I have been trying the en-US and de-DE layouts, neither of which work correctly.
