In FF 67.0.4 links in emails open in new window instead of new tab
Before updating, links in email open a new window instead of new tab, even though FF is running. Options preference is to open links in new tab. Also cannot stop annoying FF popups to update FF. All recommendations are for other website popups, not for FF itself...and I just updated!

Hi Dynamic, the AppData\Local path has temporary/dispensable stuff. If you want the valuable profile data, you need to look under the AppData\Roaming path.

Hi Dynamic, are you using a separate program for your emails, for example, Outlook or Thunderbird?
Firefox 67 changed how external links and locally saved documents are handled: instead of opening in whatever Firefox profile is currently running, they will open in the default profile. So possibly your regular profile and the one marked as default might be out of alignment.
Next time you use an external link and open in a new window, try this:
Profile Manager Page
Type or paste about:profiles in the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it.
This page should list at least one profile, and possibly several. (Each profile has two folders and one or more buttons. Do not use any Remove buttons!)
The profile the current Firefox window is currently using will have this:
This is the profile in use and it cannot be deleted.
If another profile is running it will have this longer text:
This profile is in use in another application and it cannot be deleted.
If you see that, does that profile have a button labeled Set as default profile? If so, please click that to align the external link behavior with your preferred settings.
Any luck?
Thank you. I found that URL, but saw something different "Default: Release" and wasn't sure what to do. Meanwhile, apparently just accessing that page fixed the problem, but consolidating profiles would be good. Please take a look. Any suggestions for the constant popups by FF to update. In the options section, the directions to receive update notices applies to website URL's but not to FF itself. Thank you.
Hi Dynamic, thanks for checking that.
Does your Firefox list version 67.0.4 on the Troubleshooting Information page? Either:
- "3-bar" menu button > "?" Help > Troubleshooting Information
- (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
- type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter
That would be in the first table on the page.
Assuming so, try removing any pending updates that Firefox already downloaded. Here's where you do this:
Type or paste the following in the Windows 10 system search box and then press Enter:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Mozilla\updates
That should launch a file browser (File Explorer) in the following hidden folder:
C:\Users\your_username\AppData\Local\Mozilla\updates
I'm pretty sure this is where Firefox stages the next update and if you remove the contents here, Firefox should pause nagging until the next release.
Does that work?
P.S. Don't bother trying to consolidate the two profiles. It's handy to have an extra profile around for testing.
Yes, it's .02 instead of .04 profie in the help>troubleshooting.
When I search for updates, I find 0: PATCH DIRECTORY C:\Users\Digital\AppData\Local\Mozilla\updates\E7CF176E110C211B\updates\0 INSTALLATION DIRECTORY C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox WORKING DIRECTORY C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox

Seems the update isn't working if Firefox is stuck on 67.0.2.
When I search for updates, I find 0:
PATCH DIRECTORY C:\Users\Digital\AppData\Local\Mozilla\updates\E7CF176E110C211B\updates\0
Is the folder named 0 actually empty or does it contain files? If there is a stuck update in there that doesn't install, I suggest removing it and letting Firefox download it again. You can trigger it using the steps in this article: Update Firefox to the latest release.
Note: the .3 and .4 releases were to patch 0-day vulnerabilities used to attack cryptocurrency companies, so they are considered urgent.
Yes. it is named 0 and has 0 updates. Really don't want to update again. the last two times in the last two months, I lost my theme, add-ons and saved tabs. Don't use cryptocurrency
I can suggest making a backup... Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles.
Well apparently overnight FF of MS updated on it's own and now there are no updates, but also history of tabs was erased. There are 2 profiles: one default and one in use. I did a search for backups and for sessionstore and found nothing. Here are the files attached. You can see I'm trying to scrounge the default activity stream, but it doesn't seem to be working. also even though I select FF as my desired browser, with every update I'm asked to reselect it. I'm wondering if that erases history. Please help.
