Three questions/remarks about Thunderbird

Hello,

I have three questions/remarks for Thunderbird support:

- Is it possible to merge all address books into only one? Now I have a 'personal address book', made by Thunderbird, where new addresses are stored; a 'Windows Live E-mail address book' from my former e-client; and a 'assembled address book', also made bij Thunderbird, which is empty now and cann't be deleted. Is it possible to merge all these address books to only one, with for example 'Geert' as name, and delete all other address books?

- I have checked the option for my POP3 e-mail account "Importing from new e-mails when starting Thunderbird". Nevertheless, Thunderbird doesn't import these e-mails when starting. I have to manually click on "import new e-mails now". How can that be possible? How can I fix this?

- I have unchecked the option "emails that are reported unwanted, make them classified read". Nevertheless, my unwanted emails, when placed in the 'unwanted folder', are marked 'read'. I don't want this. How can I fix this problem?

Thanks for your answers.

Best regards,

Geert1964

The bug acknowledges the problem, but doesn't indicate when a fix will be released.

I would try setting the IMAP account as default, restart TB, then set the POP account as default, restart TB, then see if downloads at startup works.

You can't delete Personal Address Book, but contacts can be moved between address books by drag and drop; hold Ctrl while dragging to copy instead of move. 'Assembled address book' is probably All Address Books, the English term, and it also cannot be deleted, as it is just a search of all address books, not an actual address book.

There is a bug where mail is not downloaded at startup if Local Folders is set as the Default account.

Hello,

- I understand now how to move contacts between different address books. But I mean with 'Assembled address book' not 'All address books', but, in Dutch 'Verzamelde adressen', in English mayby 'Gathered address book' or 'Aggregated address book'. I don't know exactly the English name for 'Verzamelde addressen'. This address book, which was empty from the beginning, and also created bij Thunderbird, cannot be deleted also? Why does Thunderbird made this address book in the first time, because it has - as I know - no purpose.

- Local Folders is NOT set as the Default account with me, but that POP3 account is. Thus this is not the bug you are talking about. Mayby thit is another bug, similar to the one you mentioned!?

-My third question you haven't answered yet.

Verzamelde addressen is Collected Addresses. It is the other default address book that cannot be deleted. Its purpose is to store the addresses of recipients of outgoing mail, and can be turned on or off in Tools/Options/Composition/Addressing.

If you read the bug report, Local Folders may be set as Default in TB preferences even if a user hasn't deliberately done so. That is why setting another account as default and then reversing that step sometimes establishes the correct preference. But there could be other reasons.

I can't answer your last question - suggest you post it in a separate question.

Hello sfhowes,

Thanks for your answers.

- I now fully understand the purposes of all address books and how to move email addresses between them.

- The second issue: I don't quite understand what you mean by 'and then reversing that step'. I have set the POP3 account as Default (in fact, it was already set to that POP3 account, but I changed it to another IMAP account, and back), and Thunderbird still isn't downloading new emails bij startup. This bug, is this going to be solved in a following update?

- The last question: I'll ask it in another separate question.

Best regards,

Geert1964

Hello sfhowes

I've already done that twice, and the problem persists.
