At some point in 76 my firefox browser simply stopped to remember logins. Everyday when I start the browser I have to re login to gmail and such. Also history gets cleared (but not cookies). If during the day (without turning the PC off) I restart the browser, sometimes the logins keep logged in, sometimes not. The only login that keeps logged in is the Firefox account, also I have 1 mobile devise sync'd

I've tried every standard option there is to try to make the browser remember, but to no avail.

Yesterday I was messing with Simple Tab groups (enabling and disableing it) and now the browser doesn't restores the browser session, not even with session add.ons like session boss.

I got fed up today and did a clean install, and logged to gmail only just to try (not even firefox acc), but upon resetting, the browser still didn't keep the gmail login.

I guess It wasn't totally clean install, since the browser knew that I had reinstalled firefox and offered a refresh

In case you use "Clear history when Firefox closes" or otherwise clear history.

  • do not clear the Browsing History
  • do not clear the Cookies
  • do not clear the Site Preferences
  • clearing "Site Preferences" clears exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, and software installation and exceptions for passwords and other website specific data
  • clearing "Cookies" will remove all cookies including cookies with an allow exception you may want to keep

Detail like websites remembering you and log you in automatically is stored in a cookie.

You can use these steps to make a website recognize and remember you.

  • create a cookie allow exception with the proper protocol (https:// or http://) to make a website remember you

You can check that you aren't clearing important cookies.

  • using "Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed" keeps cookies with an allow exception
  • using "Clear history when Firefox closes" to clear cookies clears all cookies including cookies with an allow exception you may want to keep
  • clearing "Site Preferences" clears exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, and software installation and exceptions for passwords and other website specific data
  • Settings -> Privacy & Security
    Cookies and Site Data: "Manage Exceptions/Permissions"
