I want to re-order the add-ons / extensions in the toolbar shared with the search bar. Customize toolbar only has functions/icons related to the operation of Firefox. I want to customize the extensions toolbar, but how?

In the add-ons page, I can remove, disable, or enable extensions, but I cannot change the order of them.

As an example, there is an add-on for my Firefox account that is leftmost in the bar of extension icons. I would like to move it all the way to the right. Again, how would I do that?

Thanks for your help.

It's in 'Nightly' evidently so it's on its way. https://www.reddit. com/r/firefox/comments/137o97i/nightly_extensions_can_now_be_reordered_in_th/

This allows you to change the order of extensions that appear in the panel when you click the "puzzle piece" extensions button, when there are enabled extensions that are NOT pinned to the toolbar. Related bug report, fixed in fx114 (Nightly) if you want more information: Bug 1805924 Allow to re-order the list of extensions in the unified extensions panel

Note that when all extensions are pinned to the toolbar, the extensions panel is not shown when you click the puzzle piece icon. See this common question in the Manage your extensions using the extensions button in the toolbar article: (quote)Why is the panel not shown when I click the extensions button? If no extensions are installed or if all extensions are either disabled or pinned to the toolbar, the extensions panel is not shown. Instead, the Add-ons Manager Personalize Your Firefox page will open in a new tab.

@AliceWyman , hi. You seem to be repeating the Firefox instructions for moving pinned extensions, however those instructions LACK information about actually moving the extensions. When one right-clicks the puzzle piece and opens the Customize Toolbar menu, the items that are available to interact are *not* the pinned extensions (see attached screenshot). Instead, they are items related to acting on Firefox directly, such as "New window", "Full screen", "print", etc. In the screenshot, you can see that I have 16 pinned extensions that I'd like to rearrange. Firefox's solution do *not* address this need, as far as I can tell.

You can "grab" one of the pinned extension icons in the "Customize Toolbar" panel and move it to a different position on the navigation (main) toolbar. It works for me in Firefox 112 on Windows when I move the mouse pointer over an extension icon, click and hold down with the mouse, and then drag the icon to a different position. It only works on the navigation (main) toolbar. You can't move an extension icon to the overflow menu, if that's what you're trying to do.

Hi @Dropa, I'm on a mac pro laptop. When I click on the puzzle piece on the far right, next to the hamburger menu icon, it opens a webpage with the title Personalize Your Firefox. There it has suggestions for add-ons. On the left, one of the side menu items is Extensions. When I click on that, it shows a list of the enabled extensions as I described above.

I've tried using that list to reorder the extensions, but it doesn't appear possible. I can see details about an extension by clicking on it, or do various actions on it, but I can't move it on that page or on the toolbar itself.

I'm still hoping there's a simple solution ...

Are you asking how to change the order of extension buttons you have pinned to the toolbar? If so, you can use the "Customize Firefox" feature. If you don't have a "right-click" option to open the context menu for the "puzzle piece" icon on your mac, you can press and hold the Control key while you click on the item (ref.). Another way: Click the menu button Fx89menuButton, click More Tools and choose Customize Toolbar…. A "Customize Firefox" tab will open which allows you to drag and drop buttons. See Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars for details.

For common questions and to learn more about the extensions button, extensions panel, and pinned extensions, see Manage your extensions using the extensions button in the toolbar.

Future replies: Please read this post and my original post before responding - Firefox's current support materials do not address the problem.

I see now that it would have been more clear and specific to have titled this question "Reorder Pinned Extensions, Customize Toolbar doesn't address"

I guess you have to unpin everything, and then pin it again in a desired order.

Thank you, @AliceWyman!!

The last clue in your post was the one I needed, and as I suspected, it is actually simple, *once you know it.*

It works to click and drag to re-order the extension icons from the Customize Toolbar menu, when you look up and see that the extension icons are displayed above the functional icons in the larger display box.

Once I saw them there, I found I could move them around. Thank you! Now the extensions I use frequently are closer to the middle of the bar so I can access them quickly. Hooray.

I'm glad to see that this is being addressed in future releases.
