I've been using Foxit to read pdfs. Today I had to install Adobe because a doc I downloaded would work with nothing but. Since downloading Acrobat Reader, Firefox defaults to opening all of the other pdfs I download with Adobe. I tried to change Options>Applications to "Ask Me" for PDF related docs, but it doesn't ask me, it just goes straight opening up the doc with Adobe. I want to at least be able to choose, if I can't default to Foxit. How can this be changed if Options>Applications> "Ask Me" isn't doing this?

I forgot to say that I closed and restarted FF 2x after trying to set Options>Applications> "Ask Me". Still no change in the pdf reader behavior.

Two points:

  1. If you've already downloaded the file, Firefox doesn't control how it's opened, so Options > Applications won't do anything. You'll need to change the setting at the Windows level.
  2. If you're viewing an embedded PDF, it'll load with a plugin (which Adobe has but Foxit does not) so it'll load with Adobe and not Foxit.

I meant to say click instead of download. I realize that once the doc is on the desktop, the browser can't change the doc's behavior. I looked at options>applications again. I can select to use Foxit. I just tried it, I think it works now.
