GOOD NEWS In this case DETECTABLE malware caused the problem. Well done shams1924 NB may need to use ad-aware to detect malware

The developers so far seem unable to recreate this type of crash despite it being the 2nd highest identifiable crash signature and being seen in a couple of thousand Firefox10.0.1 crashes last week.

edit using wiki markup to amend no good news to nogood news does not show as intended in the solution, I will amend further without the strike throughs and bold, will use capitals instead. Another thread also finds malware to be the problem /questions/919526

Did you try my suggestion in an earlier post of installing Firefox 3.6 portable ?
as an additional browser. Hopefully that will not crash (I can not see any 3.6.26 crashes with that signature, (edit - another user confirmed that worked) and if it does crash that may well provide additional clues to those investigating the crash. If it does not crash at least you have a working browser, one that will be capable of utilising your existing bookmarks.

It is the same crash signature as before:

I suppose the only good news about that is that as a lot of other Firefox users are having crashes with a consistent signature it will get priority attention.

Have you already seen firefox crashes I am not able to get your crash reports at the moment.

Try running in safe mode using the default theme, with all plugins disabled, if it still crashes then please post another couple of crash ID s. Hopefully someone will be able to get useful clues from them.

P.S. crash info now available

As many of the crashes with the above signature occur in Firefox 10, rather than the new 10.0.1 I would suggest you download the latest version using another browser and install firefox 10.0.1.

This report also contains technical information about the state of the application when it crashed.

If you post the recent crash IDs someone may be able to have a look at them. The crash info is sent to Firefox, but only a proportion of it is processed automatically, and a vanishingly small amount receives personal attention. There are thousands of crash reports every day, some individual crash types may amount to 10s of thousands a week.

The reports that are generated automatically, do sometimes produce clues to what happened that are sufficient to indicate a likely solution.

Hi shams1924,

I did not see your last post when I posted, I guess the posts were at the same time.

The info required is the Crash ID of the submitted report to Firefox. Your post is something else, presumably a report from Windows. You will need to read the article firefox crashes so that you are able to submit the crash information to firefox, and obtain a crash ID. It is possible to do that even if Firefox crashes and is unavailable. The procedure is explained in the article.

more options

ok. here is the recent crash report. Crash ID: bp-67ad18d4-908f-4e5d-8b02-597ed2120212

can somebody please help. im using shi**y i.e and i hate it. it freezes more times in a day than firefox froze in one year. all my work tabs and links are saved in firefox.

more options

i have a feeling that its something todo with profiles. dunno why. just a good guess on my behalf

more options

Install firefox portable 3.6 as an additional browser, that should not crash. If necessary it may be used with your work links and Firefox bookmarks.

I will look up your crash report.

You are crashing in Firefox 10.0.1

I may have hoped that this was part of a set of related bugs where the new release would solve the problem. iirc there was mention of a security embargo on some of these problems. It may be the case that the problem is malware related and work is being done behind the scenes to counter this.

All I can suggest is keeping an eye on latest firefox issues for breaking news, whilst keeping any security software fully updated and scanning with it.

more options

Two things you could try, we have no direct info to say they will work but if you are careful they do no harm.

You think the problem is profile related so create and use a new profile.

You could also do a new clean install, deleting the program folder of Firefox first. Take care, it is the program folder you need to delete NOT the profile files and folders

more options

ok. i will try creating new profile. the links you have shown above explain that correct? ■do not rename or delete any profiles (just delete links to them if not used) . how do i delete links to them? thanks very much for your help john

more options

The deleting shortcut links is not important at the moment. I was just thinking ahead to a situation where you may have generated multiple test profiles and be considering deleting and renaming profiles.

more options

ok. i just deleted everything. all firefox profiles, data, shortcuts, program files, everything related to firefox. done a new install with the latest firefox. it starts up. then when you go to anypage, it crashes. im back to square one again, where i was originally!!!

more options

Sorry you are still having problems, would you please post a couple of the recent CrashIDs that you obtained after the reinstall, and from crashes where Firefox is in safe-mode with no plugins enabled.

more options

ok i will do that shortly

more options

ok. current crash report for normal mode: bp-7481d727-dddb-4915-9381-bd7e82120215 safe mode: bp-38319a60-24f1-4bfc-b251-9affa2120215

hope that produces something
