I recently updated to Firefox 15.0.1, and I'm having a lot of trouble with it constantly freezing. This doesn't happen on any one website and is very random in occurrence. I have already tried running in safe mode and updated flash, and I'm still having the problem. After a few seconds, it may start responding again however, most of the time it continues to hang. In order to close Firefox when this happens, I have to open task manager and end the process because nothing in the browser responds. This has become very annoying, and I would appreciate any help I can get to solve the issue. Thanks!

UPDATE: I've noticed that the freezing seems to happen every time I check my email (Yahoo & Gmail), and when I'm on Pandora. It still occurs randomly at other times, but I noticed it's very consistent with these sites.

Well, after getting no more replies I decided to say what the heck and see what restarting my computer would do since that always seems to fix everything, and what do you know, it did! So if anyone else has this problem, try restarting your computer before you make yourself crazy searching the internet and editing registry files and whatnot, it can never hurt :)

Do you enough memory to hold all of those programs at the same time?

We're sorry to hear that your Firefox seems to be crashing. Please perform the following steps to give us a crash report ID that helps us find out more about the cause of the crash.

  1. Enter about:crashes in the Firefox location bar (that's where you enter your website names) and press Enter. You should now see a list of submitted crash reports.
  2. Copy the most recent 5 report IDs that you see in the crash report window and paste them into your forum response.

Thanks in advance for your help!

More information and further troubleshooting steps can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox crashes (closing or quitting unexpectedly) article.

I'm not on those website simultaneously, it occurs if I am on any one them and none of the others. Here are my crash reports:

Very odd. Have you tried to reinstall?

more options

No, I haven't gone that far. Do you think I should try that?

more options

Ok, the problem persisted so I did a fresh reinstall of Firefox. Even after the install, the problem still occurs every time I try to check my Yahoo mail or go on YouTube, etc. It is loading the website, then it hangs for a good minute, then unfreezes and I can continue. Any other ideas of what this could be?

I experience the same problem too. Mozilla freezes really randomly, for a long period of time and it has nothing to do with specific sites, although it does it more often on Youtube for me. Although the window doesn't show the familiar "-not responding" in the title, nothing responds, not even minimize. So you either kill the process or just wait. Fortunately it doesn't affect the rest of the computer, so you can always alt+tab and work with another application until firefox unfreezes and minimizes, as a respond to my last command. Sometimes it freezes for a couple of secs, some times for much longer, even up to a minute. I have obviously found no solution (Killing the process or waiting can't really be called a solution). This is recent. I think I didn't have this problem with v.14 and I'm definitely sure I didn't with v.13. Indeed, uninstall and re-install does nothing. Anyway I usually fix the problem by killing the app and I really can't understand why you propose a (much slower) restart as a "solution".

I'm having exactly the same problems as above, it froze just now as I tried to click on reply !! At the time I only had BTMail open and Ebay, no other programs running on the computer, plenty of memory, CP usage 27%, physical memory 40%, however bearing in mind this session has only been open for 15 mins, working memory is already running at 332,808 ( 10 mins on and it's up to 363,964 ) and private working set at 279,976 !! ( this also has increased to 310,196) !!!! this is with just BTMail, Ebay and this page open. As others have mentioned it doesn't follow a particular pattern, it happens with only one tab or many tabs open. Youtube can cause FF to freeze more particularly when viewing a video, the same happens when viewing a video on say BT news, Yahoo news etc. All drivers etc. are up to date and yes I have done the re-install several times, used a new profile etc. If, after it has crashed, I view exactly the same sites that I was viewing on IE, there have never been any problems, even if I leave IE open all day and IE, viewing the same site uses less memory.

I've been with Firefox since it's inception, sadly, and increasingly, problems seem to appear far too regularly with each update.

Time to move on to another browser ?

I wonder!

I said that restarting my computer was a solution because it actually fixed the problem permanently. After I restarted my computer (the first time I had since updating to Firefox 15.0.1), Firefox no longer froze unexpectedly. I have no idea why this worked, but it fixed the problem. I was doing the same thing as you before though. I just killed the process in task manager because it was the fastest and easiest way to temporarily fix it . Sorry I can't offer any more info, I guess I just got lucky that a simple restart fixed the problem. If I see any suggestions I will surely pass them along. Good luck!

I have FF version 15.0.1. I came across this post while searching for a solution to the problem of my tabs not scrolling smoothly, if at all, across the top of the window, while holding down either of the two scrolling arrows. Before discovering a solution, I had to repeatedly click on either arrow to get them to maybe respond. But rather than restarting the computer, I decided to just try restarting FF instead. Now, everything is functioning properly.

Greetings, I'm at 16.0.2 and for the last couple of weeks I've been locking up. It's always Yahoo mail. It can be the first thing in the morning. I only have mail open for one minute and lock. CPU is at 99%. I have to kill firefox via Task manager each time.

I've seen ' waiting for csc.beap.bc.yahoo.com' at the bottom of the page numerous times.

Also, 'Read ads.yldmgring.net'.

Here are my last five crash reports.

This bug is SO ANNOYING!

FF freezes everywhere with bloody Flash player is used. Expecially watching Youtube in several tabs.

What is weird is to "unfreeze" FF you need to switch to another (not FF) window and switch focus back.

Seems like this is bloody Adobe bug, not 100% Mozilla's.

Using FF 16.0.2

Probably NVIDIA video drivers are involved too. Once video driver was restarted during such "freeze".

Definetely something wrong with Flash and NVIDIA drivers.

I don't have such problem on my work laptop having built-in Intel graphics crap aka "GMA".

Why there is still no alternative for bloody annoying Flash player?

You can check for problems caused by recent Flash updates and try these:

  • disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
  • disable protected mode in Flash 11.3 and later
  • disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

This has been going on for a long time. When is Firefox going to fix it? Don't tell us what to do, just do it, fix it! It is very annoying, and seems to happen most often when commenting on a YouTube video or editing the info on one of my own daily videos. YouTube and Firefox seem to be at war. Create a peace treaty that works!

I tired using Chrome, but it lacks Firefox features that are important, which is why I keep going back to FF.

Let me add that the only thing I can do is hit cntrl-alt-del, shut down FF, then restore.
