Hello. Not really an emergency, just a very annoying and weird problem. Lately, videos that use Tumblr's uploader have been playing while looking like this: http://i.imgur.com/sReXFa2.jpg?1. I don't know if this started with Firefox's new version, or if it's a tumblr only issue, but that's how it is.

Here's the weird part: Start Firefox in Safe Mode, and it plays just fine, without all that weird coloring issue. Play it after Firefox has been reset, however, and it still looks like the link above. As far as I know, Safe Mode is pretty much Firefox when reset (though correct me if I'm wrong), but without the hassle of re-downloading your add-ons after you exit it.

Another weird part?: If I downgrade to version 22, the video also plays just fine, even with Add-ons added in.

So... any ideas about this?

EDIT: I might also note that videos that utilize YouTube and other sources play just fine. It's just the Tumblr-uploaded videos that have issues.

Also, why am I asking this here if it's a Tumblr issue? Because this problem only seems to crop up in FF (I tried Chrome and IE, and could not replicate the issue there).

Try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

You can check for problems with current Flash plugin versions and try these:

  • disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin
  • disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
  • disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)

Cor-el, it appears that first part worked. So thanks on that.

However, will this affect things such as Facebook messaging or videos in any negative way? How exactly does it work?

You're welcome.

Using hardware acceleration in Firefox means that Firefox uses the GPU instead of the CPU to do some operations and you may not notice any effect on the performance of Firefox when hardware acceleration is disabled.
