when i turn on my computer (windows 8) mozilla automatically opens without me clicking on it. i tried the msconfig option at the command prompt and going to startup and the message i got was that this is handled in task manager. i opened task manager and clicked on the startup tab but mozilla isn't listed there but still starts automatically when i go to my desktop.

You can use the MSConfig program or the Autoruns utility to see which software and services are getting started (be cautious with disabling services).
