Instructions given for getting out of Safe Mode do not work (restart, reset), so how do I get the heck out of Safe Mode?
Tonight I went into Firefox for the first time in at least two years. When I had tried to open the version of Firefox I had in my Applications, it opened in Safe Mode.
So I downloaded the latest version, Firefox opened, and it automatically retrieved my old bookmarks. However, the download opened in Safe Mode.
I have pored through the Help files and attempted the few suggestions given to get out of Safe Mode. I closed and reopened Firefox, choosing Reset. That didn't work.
I closed Firefox and restarted my computer. Then I opened Firefox. It opened in Safe Mode and gave me no alternative.
I have only gone into Firefox, because I haven't been able to access the Cisco/Linksys Router Setup page (198.162.1.1) using the instructions I was given. I assumed Chrome might have had an issue, so I decided to try Firefox. But I may never know if Firefox could have gotten me into the Router Setup page I need to access, because I am stuck in Safe Mode.
Although I strongly agree with the nonprofit, open-source nature of Firefox, I am remembering why I stopped using Firefox a long time ago: It is narrow in the scope of its Help functions, and it assumes too much knowledge from the user.
So, I am stuck, and I may never get this router set up, as I desperately need to.
I doubt I will be checking back into the forum, because I do not think there is any point. If I can't even get out of Safe Mode--and I don't know how it got into Safe Mode, because there have certainly not been any crashes in the two-plus years during which I have not used Firefox--there is no point in attempting to use this browser. If you wish to contact me, you may do so through the email address I am registered with.

Did you check the target line in the Firefox desktop shortcut (right-click: Properties) to make sure that it doesn't have the -safe-mode command line switch appended?
Also make sure that you aren't holding down the Shift key or use a shortcut key with only the Shift modifier.

Hello,
Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
Note: You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
- Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
- After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
- Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
- Windows:
- C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
- C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
- Mac: Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
- Linux: If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see Install Firefox on Linux. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder firefox in your home directory.
- Windows:
- Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
- Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
- Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
Please report back to see if this helped you!
Thank you.
