Java does not Appear in Plugins List
Firefox 23.0.1 Windows Vista 32-bit running Java 6 update 14 Windows 7 32-bit running Java 6 update 20
In the plugins tab of Firefox I cannot see Java; Java contents in webpages do not load. Here's what I've tried/checked so far:
plugin.scan.plid.all is "true" dom.ipc.plugins.java.enabled is "true" Recreated the "pluginreg.dat" file in Firefox profile folder Confirmed that HKLM\software\mozillaplugins does not contain any key referencing Java Confirmed that "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins" does not exist
Java content loaded through IE 7/8 is fine.
Since this is a corporate deployment, applications are versioned for a reason and can't be changed.
I'm hoping that someone will be able to assist here, many thanks in advance!

Hi cor-el and AliceWyman,
Thanks both for your help; actually I seem to have fixed the issue by manually creating the missing registry key, which was a bit of a chore but got there in the end. :)

See the article Use the Java plugin to view interactive content on websites and make sure you update Java to the latest version. Look under the Installing or updating Java section of the article for help with that.
Hi Alice,
"Installing or updating Java" As mentioned in first post, app versions are set for a reason and can't be changed.
"Testing Java" Plugin does not appear in list of available plugins.
"Enabling Java" It's enabled; IE and Chrome have no difficulty detecting and loading Java.
"Troubleshooting" "Uninstall JavaFX if installed" Java 7u10 not used. "Remove outdated Java plugin files from the Firefox plugins folder" Java plugin not detected by Firefox "Other software that may block Java" Works fine with other browsers
If the HKLM\software\mozillaplugins registry key doesn't have a key for the Java plugin then Firefox won't be able to find the Java plugin.
Try to uninstall Java with the JavaRa program and reinstall the 32 bit Java version.
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Java#Enabling_Java under If the Java plugin does not appear in the Add-ons Manager even though Java is installed section, suggests deleting the pluginreg.dat file and resetting the preference plugin.scan.plid.all in about:config ... but it looks like you already tried that.
The only other thing I can think of is the fact that your Java 6 update 14 and Java 6 update 20 versions have been blocklisted - see https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/blocked/p80 ... which links to:
- Bug 739955 - [Windows] Blocklist vulnerable jre versions pre update 31 due to security issue
I thought that they'd still show up in the Firefox Add-ons list of installed plugins, though. You could look throught the bug report to see if anything there is helpful.
