I have auto-update on, are the "please update firefox" popups that I get sent to from various websites some kind of fraud?
Every so often, I get sent to a page that asks me to "please update firefox". The word "firefox" is present in the website address, but I'm suspicious, because I have auto-update on and it says I'm up to date. Are these annoying popups actually Firefox asking me to update, or are they someone else, trying to get me to download malware, spyware or adware under the cover of a fraudulent Firefox update?

You should never respond to such a request on web pages to update as this will likely infect you with malware.
Only update Firefox via "Help > About" or by downloading Firefox from the official Mozilla servers.

Thanks, that's what I suspected (thank goodness I've got a healthy dose of suspicion in me) so I never did try to "update" it that way. Ugh, there are so many people in this world that need to catch a dose of fist poisoning.
