version 29 is unusable for disabled user

Question - is FF designed for users or those who are responsible fort the so-called ‘updates’? Last time I looked at FF I was using 28 and still fuming that when I click download I have then to open the download window myself - why?

Now I find I have been updated to 29 and usability has taken yet another step backwards. I am disabled and use a switch control. Every function which allows me to use a browser with the same dexterity as abled bodied users was programmed into the switch. With 28 I have had to reprogram the command to open the download window since there was no option to choose automatic open. Just as I go this sorted I found that my version of FF had changed to 29 and my icons (and my control) had gone. Add ons that male my life easier had disappeared along with the Add on toolbar and the tabs were on top and much smaller. My favourite theme has also disappeared as it will not work with 29. I don’t see why I have to download first aid add ons to reset the browser to make it usable. Of course, security updates are important, but to make changes which leaves the browser without any option to CHOOSE what we need is not an update.

Which toolbar buttons and functions are you looking for in Firefox 29?

You can look at the Classic Theme Restorer extension to restore some functionality that was lost with the arrival of the Australis style in Firefox 29.

  • You can check the settings of the CTR extension via its Options/Preferences button on the "Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" page.
  • You can find extra toolbar buttons in the Customize palette (3-bar Firefox menu button > Customize)

Thanks for your attempt to assist, but the problem re. the download window opening automatically has no workaround. I have tried using the Classic theme restorer and this scrambled the layout of the theme I had just managed to adapt. The problem I have with these updates of FF is that there is hardly any way to dispense with the aspects that make the browser inaccessible to many users. I use my MacBook Pro in my work and the time I spend attempting to work around the latest updates is time I don’t have to spare. The other frustrating aspect of frequent updates is that the changes render many themes and add ons redundant. Without doubt, all software has to be updated, but it is the frequency of FF updates and lack of consultation with users beforehand that is prompting users to switch to another browser. This is why I moved from IE to FF in the first place.
