I have transferred my bookmarks from Internet Explorer, but cannot get them to sit permanently on left of screen, as in Internet Explorer. Having spent over 2 hours trying, I desperately need assistance.

You can find the "View Bookmarks Sidebar" in the drop-down list of the "Show your bookmarks" button that is the drop marker part of the star on the Navigation Toolbar to bookmark the current page. There is also a "Show Sidebars" icon in the Customize palette that you can drag on a toolbar or the "3-bar" Firefox menu to have access to the same items that you see in "View > Sidebars" (tap the Alt key or press F10 to show the Menu bar).

Very many thanks. It works! However not all the book marks from Internet Explorer have been transferred - the odd one or two are absent. Also they turn up in alphabetical order, not in the order as in Internet Explorer, and finally there is a lot of other bookmarks above those transferred; eg Bookmarks Toolbar, a list of "Most Visited", a list of "Recently Bookmarked", etc. Should I right-click and delrtr those not wanted?

If there are problems with importing the IE Favorites in Firefox then export the favorites in IE to an HTML file and import that file in the Firefox Bookmarks Manager.

If you do not have the menu bar in IE then right-click the toolbar at the top to enable the Menu Bar.

  • Export the favorites in IE to an HTML file (bookmarks.html):
    File > Import and Export
  • Import the HTML file in Firefox:
Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks > Import & Backup > Import Bookmarks from HTML

See "Import from another browser" and "Import from file":
