Why Are All Downloads Hanging Up at 1 Second?

For some reason, everything I've attempted to download today using Firefox has hung up at 1 second.

This applies to all files from multiple download locations. Some of the files do appear to be downloading anyways, but in the browser, they aren't finishing.

I also can't cancel the downloads, cause when I hit the X, it just pauses the download.

Once paused, I can't resume it in any way. The only way to stop it is by closing Firefox completely, reopening and cancelling the download immediately.

I have tried downloading using IE, and it worked, but nothing on Firefox has fully worked, including in safe mode.

Any ideas?

If you install a beta version then you move to the beta update channel as you can see in Help > About. The way to switch the update channel is to uninstall the current version and install the full version of the current Firefox release. Make sure NOT to remove your personal data when you uninstall Firefox as that will remove all Firefox profile folders and you lose your personal data. Note that you may run into problems with stored passwords if you would revert to Firefox 31 in that profile and would save a new password and update next week to Firefox 32 when it gets released (Firefox 32 uses logins.json instead of signons.sqlite).

That is unfortunately a regression bug in the current Firefox 32 beta 9.

You can create/modify this String pref on the about:config page:

browser.safebrowsing.appRepURL = https://sb-ssl.google.com/safebrowsing/clientreport/download?key=%GOOGLE_API_KEY%

Ok, so I guess I'll just wait till an update comes to fix it.

Thanks!

For the time being, while an update is in the works, is there a way 1. to revert to a fully functional version of Firefox, and 2. to stop Firefox from updating to the latest beta every time a new one comes out?

Thanks.

1. The next Beta version was released yesterday - 32 RC1, the Release Candidate 2. If you don't want to "test" the Beta version, why use it? You would be better off using the Release version, which is currently Firefox 31.

Ok, so redownload from the Firefox main site, and I should be good to go?

Perfect!

That's the answer I needed.

Thanks a bunch for the help.

I love Firefox, and install on just about every computer I use whether at home, work, or school, so I want to keep using it.

Thanks. :)
